Two-volume set. Text clean, binding of vol. 1 a little loose. Folding map in vol. 2 has long tear and small pieces missing. Marbled fore edges of pages dulled. Boards scuffed (vol. 1 lacks piece of marbled paper on front board) and edges worn. Corners bumped and leather worn. Spine of vol. 2 has small crack near front top and damaged title label. Spine of vol. 1 has tear at bottom and top and title label in entirely missing.

The Photogravure and Colour Series. A neat clean copy; ink gift inscription on front fep. Gilt title and decoration on front board and spine still bright, gilt top fore edges untarnished. Back board slightly scuffed, corners and ends of spine lightly worn.

Sixth impression (1962) of first edition (1957). Text clean and binding tight. Past owner’s name and date in ink on front fep. Foxing to fore edges of pages and front endpapers. Water stain on top free corner of back board and on back endpapers. Mottling to free edges of front and back boards. DW price clipped, back panel lightly soiled and spine browned, chips to top and bottom and small tears at folds.

Introduction by Laurence Housman. Four tipped-in colour plates, decorative borders and decorated title page by Charles Robinson. Some pencil writing on front fep. Label torn off front endpaper. Library stamp on front fep, verso of half-title page and on p. 70. Three of the plates have small creases at one lower corner. Slight random foxing. Front endpaper split at hinge. Covers edge worn and corners bumped and worn. Back cover stained. Spine chipped top and bottom.
