Greetings from our relocated shop in Stellenbosch!

Stellenbosch ShopStellenbosch Shop

Since the last newsletter our Stellenbosch shop has moved. Still in central Stellenbosch, we are now in an inviting bright ground level shop in the busy De Wet Centre off Church Street. We have sourced some excellent new material for the new shop and look forward to seeing you soon.

Please click here to view our new location on Google Maps.

Stellenbosch Shop

We will have an opening function for the Stellenbosch shop within the next few weeks. We’ll keep you updated, and hope that you will be able to join us for a glass of wine.

The roadworks continue to inch further into Kalk Bay, main road access now being a one way road in from the Muizenberg side and an exit via Boyes Drive. This has actually made for free flowing traffic and lots more parking.

A signed and inscribed copy of On The Black Hill by Bruce Chatwin

SAM HASKINS

It is inscribed: To Ann Hughes, with many thanks on a memorable day at Sterkfontein. (Bruce Chatwin) 7 July ‘84

Inscriptions by Chatwin are particularly scarce.

Chatwin is known to have visited Sterkfontein in the 1980’s and to have formulated the idea that early man, (Australopithicus) and prehistoric felines (Dinofelis) or sabre-toothed tigers lived in very close proximity. Or even co-existed in the famous cave complex there.

In Songlines he writes: …without defences but their own brute strength; without fire; without warmth but their own huddled bodies; night-blind, yet forced to share their quarters with a glitter-eyed cat, who, now and then, would have prowled out to grab a straggler.

Credo Mutwa is also known to have voiced similar opinions.
