First ed, first impression; published 1845 (i.e. December 1844). Text clean but foxing on engraved title and frontispiece. Illustrations by Maclise, Doyle, Leech, Stanfield. Red cloth gilt cover has stains and marks. Top and bottom of spine torn, corners bumped. Gilt still bright, including edges. Owners’ names on front flyleaf and half-title page.
