Card covers, size: 17cm x 13cm. 12pp. With poems by Longfellow, Wordsworth, Moile and others. Beautiful colour illustrations of Cathederals by Barraud. Binding loose, but fixed with bookbinder’s tape. All pages slightly discoloured, page edges guilted, circa 1890’s.
Folio size cover, 40cm x 30cm. Lithograph on front and back cover, slightly spotted. Title page plus 7 loose pages of text including the page stating that this issue is number 10 and bearing the signatures of both Madritsch and Schwyzer. ( loose pages bearing signed lithographs by Madritsch.
Pages clean inside, binding tight, cover lightly worn.
Signed by Alice Mertens (photographer) on title page. Lower edges of spine and lower corners slightly rounded. DW slightly scuffed, and soiled on back.
Dust jacket well worn on edges, with creasing and repairs in tape. Discolouration to endpapers. Previous owners inscription and bookplate. Good firm copy , with fold out illustated map, and black and white photographs of Johannesburg in the 1940s.
