A beautifully rebound set with beige leather spines and forecorners, gilt titles to the spines and tan cloth boards. Volume I of this new edition was published in 1850, vol’s II - IV were published in 1851. Sixty six engravings and numerous woodcuts. Vol IV has the 22 colour chromolithographs of the various tartans with all tissue guards in place. The map is not present.
Light wear to edges of boards and foxing to prelims.
Fairly heavy fishmothing to boards. Cloth spine is missing, repaired with bookbinder’s tape. Binding tight and interior of the book is in very good condition. 40 pp, catalogue by Methuen at back of book. Catalogue is dated November 1905

Spine faded and marked, corners bumped, front board is marked and front edge has dent. Text clean and binding tight. Endpapers foxed.
Binding is firm but worn, with some discolouration to the spine. Tropical worm damage,this consists mainly of small holes, about 8 to a page with about 1-2 mm diameter, they have the apperance of small ink spots. Cloth binding with embossed title.
With 1980 Supplement (1966-1980). Ink inscription on front fep. Lower edges of boards have small area of water/insect (?) damage. DW sunned on spine, chips at top edge.
