“Translated from the French by Nea Morin and Janet Adam Smith. With an Introduction by Eric Shipton”. Previous owner’s name in ink to the front fep. Light foxing noted throughout. Contains black-and-white and colour photographs. Boards show some wear, especially along the edges. DW shows losses to the top and bottom of spine and various closed tears with general wear.
Translated from Afrikaans by David Schalkwyk. Set in the 1870s in the then small town of Bloemfontein.
Binding is in poor condition. Both boards are off and bundles are loose. A good candidate for re-binding. Ink note to the blank pg after the index, on the origin of the word mews. Two names to the paste down fep. Page edges untrimmed. All pages of the book are however in good condition.

An interesting and scarce account of the Company Gardens and their development. With many black and white illustrations and photographs. Some very minor foxing to the prelims.
