“A glossary of South African words and phrases and of place and other names” – “Presentation copy” blind stamped to head of title page, signature of G.H Wilson to f.f.e.p. & multiple penciled-in suggestions throughout the text, likely made by Wilson, who was editor of the Cape Times until 1944. Green cloth covered boards with gilt titles to spine and titles tooled to front board. Edges browned and foxed, with foxing especially to early and latter leaves. Slight tear to pub ads in prelims. Good overall.

Airship Pilot No. 28.

Inscribed by the author to his sister. Foreword by Lord Ventry. Trained with the Royal Navy in 1915 the author spent long hours on escort duty flying the Submarine Searcher class, or blimps as they were called, over the the slow convoys in the Atlantic. He maintained this unflagging interest in airships and in 1973 was granted honorary life membership of the Lighter-than-air Society of America.

Album de la Mission Romande – Mission Des Eglises Libres de la Suisse Romande

On the 9th of July 1875, two young missionaries, Creux and Berthoud, founded the Swiss mission station of Valdezia in the Northern Transvaal, with their field of action being a hard living and constantly tested society. The Swiss mission was famous for its high quality hospitals and schools. The Principal task was Evangelisation, however they strongly believed in the power of education as a tool to improve living conditions, with schools offering agricultural and industrial syllabi. Strong efforts to foster good race relations were made by the church, as well as a focus on cordial ties with other christian sects.

This book, written in French, includes 32 plates and 1 map.

3 Corners of the mount are clipped along with two corners of the photograph. Faded inscription to the bottom left and a date to the lower right corner. Verso is browned and chipped and bears photographer’s stamp. A team of four horses draws a cart with two individuals seated, one holding a whip.

Print mounted on card to fashion a post card – addressed to a recipient in Stellenbosch and containing two halfpenny stamps and a cancellation from Monatgu post office. Card is foxed, especially to verso. Small chip missing from bottom edge of photograph and photograph lightly faded. 11 Figures on the veranda of the Montagu hotel. At the top of the steps a man with a small, white dog and on the second step, a leopard.

An account of a journey made through the two regencies by Viscount Fielding and Captain Kennedy. In half leather over green cloth. With 2 engraved frontispieces. Some rubbing to the leather and boards of both vols. Two small cataloguing labels to foot of each spine. Funchal English Rooms bookplate to front paste downs and rubber stamp to title pages. Frontis of vol. 2 present, but loosed. Leaves with scattered foxing and browning. VG copies overall.

Kathleen Ainslie’s baby book for her daughter, Margaret and later her son, John Dickson Parker. Kathleen Ainslie was active in the years 1900-1911. She is best-known for her series of children’s books based on jointed Dutch peg dolls which were popular during the 19th and early-20th centuries.
