3 Corners of the mount are clipped along with two corners of the photograph. Faded inscription to the bottom left and a date to the lower right corner. Verso is browned and chipped and bears photographer’s stamp. A team of four horses draws a cart with two individuals seated, one holding a whip.

Print mounted on card to fashion a post card – addressed to a recipient in Stellenbosch and containing two halfpenny stamps and a cancellation from Monatgu post office. Card is foxed, especially to verso. Small chip missing from bottom edge of photograph and photograph lightly faded. 11 Figures on the veranda of the Montagu hotel. At the top of the steps a man with a small, white dog and on the second step, a leopard.
